When a leak is too small or too quiet to hear, we use tracer gas: a safe, non-toxic mix of 95% nitrogen and 5% hydrogen. The drained pipe is filled with the gas, which escapes through the leak and rises through slabs, tiles, paving and soil, where a sensitive detector finds it.
